Music is not homogeneous or static. We all see it differently, hear it differently, feel it differently, and learn it differently.
The student-centered approach of our conservatory considers the unique needs of each learner, fostering a lifelong love of music and providing a foundation for continued success.
We do not practice any set teaching methodology. Our philosophy is to hire excellent teachers and allow them to create the most effective approach for each student.
The mission of The Bronx Conservatory is to provide specialized music instruction at a conservatory level of excellence to a community that typically has limited or no access to music education.
“We are not looking to shape the whole community at once, but instead to shape the community one child at a time.”Doug Meyer, President
The core of our program is the private studio music lesson.
Lessons are tailored to the individual skills and development of each student and are taught by our exceptional faculty who are all graduates from some of the world’s finest conservatories. The student-centered approach of our conservatory considers the unique needs of each learner, fostering a lifelong love of music and providing a foundation for continued success.
Private Music Lessons
Lessons are available in either 30-minute or 60-minute time periods and there are fifteen lessons in each semester.
Classes are held on Saturdays at our primary location at Bronx Community College, and on Tuesdays from 2pm – 6pm at our satellite location, the Holy Rosary School.
We offer lessons in:
- String Bass
Supplemental Music Education
As part of our emphasis on a broad musical education, all students registered for private lessons also receive weekly classes in Musicianship Skills, where they learn music theory, ear training and rhythm skills.
Students are also eligible to participate in the Bronx Conservatory Chorus, which provides experience in ensemble training and additional performance opportunities.
Our faculty are selected not only for their excellence in their chosen instrument, but for their skills as teachers.
We strive to provide a nurturing environment for all students who are eager to foster their musical talent in an affordable way, while also aiming to impart upon them skills and attitudes applicable to other areas of life and long-term success.
We leave a positive and indelible mark on the Bronx community and on the lives of our students, whether they continue as professional musicians or pursue another path with the same level of passion.
