Born on Long Island and based in Queens, Abhay works primarily in collaborative musical settings, including musical theater, opera, art song, and chamber music. His work with singers and instrumentalists led him to study with Martin Katz, Paul Groves, and Ana Maria Otamendi at the Collaborative Piano Institute (2024). He has served as Assistant Music Director for Into the Woods at the Queens Summer Vocal Institute (2026), and as Resident Artist and Assistant Pianist/Coach at Opera North New Hampshire (2025), working under Louis Burkot and Norika Yasuda on The Marriage of Figaro, The Little Prince, and Man of La Mancha. His other credits include Assistant Pianist and Coach for Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, as well as Les Misérables, The Drowsy Chaperone, and a number of other productions. He has also played vocal masterclasses and lessons for Mark Schnaible, Robert Kahn, Sherry Overholt, and many others.
A champion for art song, he premiered Bruce Saylor’s song cycle “Frost & Snow” with Lydia Saylor at Elebash Recital Hall at the CUNY Graduate Center, and performed Aaron Copland’s Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson at LeFrak Concert Hall at the Copland School. Frequently engaged with chamber and contemporary music, he was also a Resident Artist at the Lake George Music Festival (2026), where he premiered works and collaborated with a new generation of composers such as Ethan Soledad and Cole Reyes. His contemporary repertoire includes works by Steve Reich, George Crumb, Frederic Rzewski, and Unsuk Chin, and has worked with Talujon Percussion.
Through his solo piano playing, he has performed at Weill Concert Hall at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and played Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the ACSM Orchestra (2024). A recent graduate of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College (BM ’24, Advanced Certificate ’25), where he studied with Edna Golandsky, he begins studies at the Mannes School of Music in Fall 2026, pursuing an MM in piano performance under Jerome Rose (’28).
Beyond performing, Abhay was part of the Copland school’s faculty as a Staff Pianist. Additionally, he maintains a private studio of music students of all ages and is a faculty teacher/accompanist at the Long Island Studio of Music, as well as now being part of the Bronx Conservatory of Music as a faculty instructor. He is also the Music Director for the First Reformed Church of College Point
